Fraudulent Email Communications

We have become aware that attempts have been made to defraud members of the public, via e-mail communications.

The e-mail communication informs the recipient that they have won a large sum of money and that the cheque is being held by AMTRAK prior to despatch to the recipient. Payment is requested by money transfer before the cheque will be delivered.

A scam has also emerged this year from individuals claiming to have reason for selling vehicles very quickly. Sometimes this is to do with a claim that they've had to move to mainland Europe at short notice and they are in a rush to sell and that the car is priced cheaply because of that.

Please note that AMTRAK does not request payment from its customers prior to despatch for items which it may carry. If you receive a communication like this, or if there is any doubt as to the authenticity of any AMTRAK communication, please report it to us by forwarding the e-mail to security@amtrak.co.uk.

This security notice does not affect the obligation of consignee to pay shipping, customs, VAT or similar charges where these are properly payable at the time of delivery.

Regards
Christine Ford
Head of Security
